big week

To catch up on a few things...

Volleyball:
We beat the Bengals on Friday night in 4 games.

Football:
I went to the WSU vs. UofU football game on Saturday night with the Swan clan and my sister and Brock (Colton's new best friend). Our team played tough and Biff did especially well--I like to credit his performance with the salt and pepper lecture that morning at Village Inn with John, Marti, Colton & I. Way to hug rush Biff!

The fans at Utah are DIE HARD. Everyone is wearing their red "muss" shirts and they are not tolerant of other people's fans coming into their stadium and making any noise. Because of this, Brock was quite controversial--as soon as he took his post--standing--in front of his seat, he started yelling....Yelling things like "Look out Utes, little brother is coming in to whoop up on big brother!" "Oh my! You call yourselves a ranked team?" And my personal favorite, "Rise and shout, the Cougars are out!" Shortly after getting into a verbal altercation with the people behind him, he took advantage of his sideline pass and vacated the nose bleeds, to which my sister apologized for his behavior...

Even the radio people are crazed fans. Did anyone else listen to those dummies on 1280 after the game was over? I've never heard more crap spewing from people's mouths in my entire life--especially considering that one of them is a former player! Doesn't he know what "compete" means? Idiot. And let me tell you, Marti is not the person you want to be getting fired up. Or Jake Franks apparently...

We've got a busy week still to come--we (vb) play Utah tonight at home. Then Thursday, we are playing CS Bakersfield and then off we go Saturday morning to play at Sacramento State. 4 matches in 9 days--WAY better than practice!!! And football gets a shot at Montana at home this Saturday! Go Wildcats!

my new baby

Oh my. This is hilarious. I stole it off of Melissa & Andy's blog. If this is seriously what my kids are going to look like, I need to take a vow of celibacy FOREVER!

And this is supposed to be a girl?!?

home sweet home

We are finally back from our Gonzaga tournament where we took first place & had a blast visiting Jenna's family on beautiful Lake Coeur D'Alene. It was the most fun I've had in awhile & I think it's great for the girls to be able to show off their old stomping grounds to the rest of the team. It was a LONG tournament (beat SDSU in 5, Utep in 5, and Gonzaga in 4) & I thought Micah might pop because of heat exhaustion...But she made the All-Tournament team along with Chelsea, and Britt was named the tourney MVP.

Needless to say, I'm happy to be home. We get to open conference play against EWU and PSU this week & there is no place like home! I don't know what it is about Swenson Gym--the fact that it's practically brand new, it is loud as all get-out, or that the fans seems so close that they could touch you--but it is awesome! Hopefully by the end of this week we'll be sitting at a cool 10-3 on the season.

Not only is it good to be home for volleyball, but it's good to be home for my personal life. My house (inside and outside) seems to suffer and be neglected when I'm gone. Not that I'm an exceptional housekeeper or anything, but I always feel overwhelmed with things that need to be done when I get back from a long road trip...

don't mess with texas...or hawaii

We just got back from Waco, Texas, yesterday from our 2nd pre-season tournament. We finished 2-2 with losses to Baylor and Rice and wins against San Diego State and University of Texas-San Antonio. Chelsea made the All-Tournament Team this time around...

So we are officially 5-3 on the season right now after beating the Aggies on Tuesday before we left! The girls are all playing really well...some of them are a little inconsistent but I think that's because they are just trying too hard.

And I need to give a special "thank-you" to Steph...she mowed my lawn for me while I was gone. That was honestly the nicest thing anyone could've done for me at this point. I was two weeks behind in the yard work department from being gone last week in Arizona. So I'll love you forever now Steph!!! And I owe you big-time!

Now, while I was sweating in the humid, Texas sun, Colton was swimming with the turtles in Hawaii. The football team left on Thursday to go play Hawaii Saturday night. So Saturday night in Texas, a few of my players were huddled around a laptop listening to the game online through 1430 KLO. The time difference made it a little bit challenging to stay awake--the game started at 6pm Hawaii time, which meant it was 11pm for us. We stayed up until almost 3am listening to the game & we were all cheering wildly during the first half--because we were up 17-7 going into the locker room. The second half wasn't as great...we end up losing, but hopefully it gives us some confidence going into the rest of the season. The girls and I were laughing because we all know that there is no way in heck that any football players or coaches would be huddled around a laptop trying to hear or see our game in the middle of the night! It is clear that we are the more loyal fans!! Anyway, here are some pictures that Colton sent me from Hawaii:

hope floats

Yesterday, while the rain was gushing down outside my window & I did laundry, I was flipping through the channels and stopped for a minute on the movie Hope Floats.

I turned it on just as Justin Matisse had left the dinner table because Birdee had insulted him. Birdee's mom, Mrs. Calvert, said something to Birdee that really caught my attention this time around:

"You think life goes on forever? You think behind every chance comes another one and another one and another one? It's the worst kind of extravagance, the way you spend your chances."

Well,
I'm tired of wasting my chances...

Arizona Tournament

We just got back from Tucson and finished 2-1 at the Wildcat Classic. We lost to Arizona on the first day (3-0), beat Gardner Webb (3-0) and beat San Jose State (3-2). It was a fun tournament and Brittney Bisaillon made the All-Tournament Team. We also got to witness a sweet thunderstorm the first night we got there. It was pouring rain when we came out of practice to head to the Cracker Barrel for our dinner & we were all soaking wet, but it was beautiful. Steph had me crying at the dinner table after she sniffed her salad dressing and informed us that her salad was gay! I'm going to miss not having her on trips this year...

Other notable moments:
--Amy forgetting her uniform & losing her phone & repeating everything because she was in the backseat after the front and the middle seats had already said it
--Caitlyn stealing Al's honey
--My disguised beverage (delivered in a kid's meal cup)
--Nancy's slow van & thinking that 12 miles is way too far to go to eat, plus the one way street with the cars coming at her
--In n Out Burger & a mad dash to the airport
